Our mission is to help our band to build strong relationships through unity, commitment and discipline resulting in strong leadership, excellence and friendship throughout the student’s lifetime.
Rehearsals will be conducted with a positive attitude in a pleasant atmosphere. Students will be focused, energetic and relaxed in order to achieve the outstanding results desired. The director and staff will be organized and efficient through careful planning and goal setting. These qualities will make the experience enjoyable and productive for student and staff alike.
Mark has been working with bands and their kids for over 20 years and is considered one of the premeir music educators and education management professionals in the United States. Under Marks watchful eye and guidance, the Ravenwood band program has grown and flourished to a nationally recognized band program. The program has more than doubled since Mark’s arrival to over 170 students while performance accomplisments keep pace.
Amy Shuford is a native of Waynesville, North Carolina where she graduated from Tuscola High School and participated in Bands of America Regionals and the 2004 Bands of America Grand Nationals Championships. Ms. Shuford then earned a Bachelors of Science in Education and a Bachelors of Music from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina, concentrating in Instrumental and Choral Music Education. While at Western Carolina, Ms. Shuford participated in all choral ensembles and Applied Voice lessons, as well as played French horn for the WCU Wind Ensemble, Applied Horn lessons, and the WCU Horn Ensemble. Ms. Shuford has also performed with the Artist in Resonance Orchestra with the Asheville Lyric Opera. Ms. Shuford served as the Western Carolina University “Pride of the Mountains” drum major for four years, and had the privilege of receiving the Sudler Trophy in 2009, and performing in the 2011 Tournament of Roses Parade, 2011 NFL Carolina Panthers halftime show, and the 2008 and 2012 Bands of America Grand Nationals Championships.
Ms. Shuford is currently about to end her second year of teaching and could not be more grateful to be a Ravenwood Raptor!
