Cotton Bowl Trip Updates

Update 3: January 2nd, 2010

Well the trip is winding down. The band did another outstanding job at the Cotton Bowl half-time along with 900 other high school band students. They did 2 songs with the Kilgore Rangerettes doing a kick line routine to the first number. Our color guard was in the front section and did an AMAZING job.

The new Cowboy stadium is something to see. All the parents that traveled with the band got to experience the very TOP row of the stadium. Thank heavens they have a big screen because you could hardly make out the little people on the field. The weather today was beautiful.

The band finished the evening up at Amazin' Jakes. Ask your kids about it - I think they had fun there. Nashville needs something like this.

The band is packing up and planning to head out around 7:30am Sunday morning. Mark will email Jackie as they get close to Memphis as there is a good chance they will be back before the 8:30pm time. Watch your emails around 2 to 4pm on Sunday for an update. Keith and Steve are heading out early to get the truck back along with the 5 trophies. Rumor has it that the Brentwood Police may give the band an official escort into town since they are coming home as GRAND CHAMPIONS.

Also, I have said they represented Brentwood well - they have also represented NOLENSVILLE and FRANKLIN as well. So come out and cheer the band on when they get home. Expect your child to be ready for a home cooked meal, and some good sleeping. Has been early mornings, and late nights. PAMPER your GRAN CHAMPION - they deserve it.

Thanks for all your support and all your efforts to help the band this year, and for the trip. It was worth it as they all had a great time, and I truly believe the band has grown as a "band family" in a more positive direction.

Get ready for the spring semester and all the fun that is ahead for all of us.

Update 2: January 2nd, 2010

Well we all knew the Ravenwood Band was special and REALLY GOOD - and the Cotton Bowl supports us. In the parade yesterday there were about 20 high school bands - THE RAVENWOOD MARCHING BAND got 95.7 - 1st place in Class AAA, and GRAND CHAMPION of the whole thing. They looked and sounded outstanding. Everyone did really well.

WAY TO GO RAVENWOOD BAND!

Last night the band went to FT. Worth for a BBQ and Rodeo. It was fun. Would say most of our kids will not become cowboys or cowgirls, but they enjoyed the evening.

Today is the Cotton Bowl at 1pm. Guess which band is in the front for the Half-time performance? If you guessed Ravenwood - you win. They lead the whole group on the field for the mass performance so tune into FOX and catch your son or daughter on TV.

They head to a fun evening after the game, then pack, and leave at 7am on Sunday to go back to Brentwood with our 5 trophies.

Grand Champion Parade
1st place parade Class AAA
Grand Champion Concert
1st place concert Class AAA
2nd place concert Class AAA

We won, had lots of fun, built relationships, and had a great time in Texas. You can brag about your kids as they have represented Ravenwood, Brentwood, Nolensville and Franklin very well. All of them are just outstanding individuals - make sure to tell them how proud you are of them and all their efforts.

See you Sunday at Ravenwood.

Update 1: January 1st, 2010

The band is doing awesome. The top Ravenwood Band - took top honos at the Concert Band Festival. They scored a 98.8 - the highest score ever by any band at the Cotton Bowl events. They were amazing. And our second Band came in 2nd. So we took the top two spots in the Concert performances.

Wednesday was a fun day at Six Flags. The weather was perfect and everyone had a great tim.

Thursday - they visited the 6th Floor Museum. Many of the band students found this very eye opening. Several commented that they did not realize how this impacted the world so much. I think they learned a lot at this stop. The weather was rainy and cold this day, and luckily we were inside all day. The evening was at the Southfork Ranch. Thay all had a good time.

Friday - they left the hotel at 7am to go to the Cowboy Stadium to practice this morning for the Mass Band performance. The Cotton Bowl is reporting that the WHOLE halftime is to be shown by the FOX station. So hopefully, you can tune in on Saturday and see your student or at least the MASS BAND. This afternoon - they are in the Cotton Bowl parade - the weather is to be SUNNY and low 50's. Perfect parade weather for them. You can watch the parade via webcam at www.myfoxdfw.com It starts at 2:30pm on 1/1/2010.

All the kids are doing great. You can know that they are representing RAVENWOOD, and the city of Brentwood and Nolensville and Franklin very well. I would say they are the best behaving, the best looking, and the nest playing group here. By the way - we are the largest band in the parade other than the Ole Miss and OSU bands. It is fun being the BIGGEST and the BEST!!

Happy New Year from Dallas, TX!
